3,800 lighting instruments, for an overall value of 3.5 million euro supplied in 1000-piece lots over the next 4 months: these are the numbers of the commission that has just been awarded to Gruppo Targetti Poulsen (the third European player in the sector of architectural lighting for interiors and exteriors) via the Danish associate company, Louis Poulsen Lighting.
The KAUST project, conceived and directly financed by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, is the largest now underway in Saudi Arabia: a 36-million square meter international university campus devoted to scientific and technical research and teaching, located on the Red Sea 80 kilometers north of Jeddah, the country’s second-largest city. Besides the academic campus, the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology embraces a true university city with three residential districts, a shopping center, and capacious port facilities.
Louis Poulsen Lighting was selected as project partner by the architects of HOK - the world’s third largest architectural firm - with whom the company has collaborated numerous times in the past (one well-known joint project, the Arsenal Emirates Stadium in London). The lighting instruments supplied by Gruppo Targetti Poulsen will illuminate all the public thoroughfares of the residential districts and the campus area. And orders relative to other KAUST areas are expected in the next 6-12 months.
This order is another step forward for Targetti Poulsen on the Middle-Eastern markets. The group has recently participated in other projects of extraordinary scope, like Doha Airport and the Carnegie Mellon campus in Qatar and lighting for Saudi Investment Bank headquarters, the offices of the Dubai Free Zone Authority, and the Bahrain City Center in Saudi Arabia.
